Abstract:
The theme of this thesis is “The school psychologist and the learning difficulties of Grade School students”. The study of the difficulties in learning and their implications is complex due to various factors. Various concepts and terms are found to designate learning difficulty. The research at hand presents some of the concepts about learning difficulties, as well as their implications in the process of learning. As a subject which covers various areas of learning and demands a multidisciplinary work, the specification of the role of the school psychologist and his or her contribution in the programs of diagnosis and intervention are necessary for their work, faced with the difficulties presented in schooling, to be effective, guaranteeing, at the same time, reflection and change of posture relating to the understanding of this work space. The specification of the work of the school psychologist about the difficulties of learning can also propitiate a reflection about their contribution in relation to this problem. The goal of this research was to analyze the role of the school psychologist with regard to difficulties in learning and, as specific goals, to present some of the concepts about learning difficulties; delimit the role of the school psychologist in relation to these; specify the work of the school psychologist relating to the difficulties in learning; propitiate a reflection about their contribution with regard to the problem. The guiding question for the elaboration of this integrative review was: How is the work of the school psychologist with regard to the learning difficulties of grade school students? An integrative review of the literature was carried out. This type of research includes distinct phases, which are: choosing the theme, elaboration of a work plan; identification; localization; compilation; book reviews; analysis and interpretation and redaction. The methodology used for the study is research using systematic reviewing, using chapters of books from the years of 1982 to 2016, and articles, monographs, published in the period of 2005 to 2016, in the Portuguese language.
