Resumen:
The studies presented here are part of the research carried out at the Nossa Senhora do Amparo-Child Care and Social Center, managed by the Mercedária Sisters, in partnership with the Municipal Public-School Network of the city of Valença, Bahia. It brings to memory the referred institution as well as the services offered to the children, highlighting its work field among the conceptions of caring for, educating and playing, permeating the work and formation of the teachers, as well as their pedagogical actions. Thus, the quest was to analyze the trajectory of service to the children, propitiating a reflection about these conceptions in the historical context of Basic Education in this institution, understanding the notion of child as being historically constructed, and which is in constant transformation throughout time. In this context, such a trajectory propitiates observations about the importance of the Nossa Senhora do Amparo Social Center institution, not only as a space of educational and social support for the poor children of the municipality of Valença with its pedagogical actions and also its community character, but also as a space of studies to foment discussions around the theme of the identity and formation of the professional of Basic Education and, consequently, of the professionals who work in the Nossa Senhora do Amparo Social Center, reflecting about how this work corroborates a pedagogical praxis founded on a pedagogical political project which systematizes the profile of the educational institution, defining the learning proposal, the demands, the structure, in sum, its identity, configuring itself as one of the instruments of constructing affirmative actions in the institution, basing its educational praxis on the offer of a quality education for the children, in their cognitive, affective, emotional and social specificities.
