Abstract:
This research investigates school Religious Education as an effective tool in the education of adolescents, verifying the importance of Religious Education in the education of adolescents and its reflex for beyond school, especially in the families, extending to the community to which they belong, through the survey research method with adolescents and those responsible for them in the Raimundo Gobes Nogeuira State School localized in the city of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, about the importance of Religious Education in the education of adolescents. 375 adolescents participated in the research who were students in middle school from grades 7, 8 and 9. 354 parents and other people responsible for the adolescents also participated in the research. A standard tool was used for collecting data (questionnaire), to describe the opinion of a standard group (adolescent students) and later, through the analysis of the data, to give an explanation of the results. It is a quantitative and qualitative research in the light of the local reality and of theoreticians and documents of the area. The research concluded that school Religious Education is, in fact, important in the education of adolescents as it contemplates the religious dimension of the human being. The school must broaden its view of education to beyond the intellectual production of students, contemplating all the dimensions of the human being. It was observed through the results of the research that the most of the adolescents researched liked the Religious Education classes, consider them important for learning about mutual respect, justice, dialog, solidarity, diversity and religious tolerance and rules for good communal interaction in society among other subjects. The parents also observed the importance of Religious Education in the life of their sons and daughters, so that both adolescents as well as parents and those responsible are in favor of maintaining Religious Education as a curricular component.
