Resumo:
The theme of this work is the class council as a tool for school evaluation. It is about a tool which has the power to decide the future of a student and the student’s learning. In this sense, the question arises as to the ethical and democratic principles used in conducting the class council. Based on bibliographic research one seeks to define and relate the concepts of ethics, democracy, school evaluation and class council, and based on a case study in the Federal Institute of Piauí – IFPI- Paraíba Campus, through the methodology of participant observation, observe how the evaluative process takes place in practice. The class council has been shown to be efficient because the decision is not individual but a collective one, contemplating the student in his or her individuality (process of individual learning, including the influence of external aspects) and in his or her context (with other curricular components). In this way, it approximates an ethical and democratic process of evaluation in teaching and learning.
