Abstract:
This research is aimed at how physiotherapists in an Intensive Care Unit comprehend spirituality, and was carried out in the Society for the Protection of Maternity and Infancy of Parnaíba (SPMIP) in the city of Parnaíba – PI. It is a qualitative research on the perception of physiotherapists of spirituality in the process of the patient’s recuperation in the ICU. It touches on aspects which influence professional conduct, academic formation and other actors inserted in the dimension of spirituality which involve the comprehension of a human being as a holistic being. The analyses of the applied questionnaires revealed the importance of spirituality for obtaining the full health of the patient, corroborating the concept of health proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), which advocates the complete bio-psycho-social-environmental-spiritual well-being of the human being. It was also observed that the professional formation of the physiotherapist is lacking with regard to issues related to the spiritual. The National Curricular Guidelines for Physiotherapist Programs were researched seeking a way to integrate them with the dimension of spirituality.
