Resumo:
The action of the Pentecostal “ethos” in the public sphere is investigated based on the “Assemblian Declaration of Faith” - the theological-doctrinal institutional document of the Assemblies of God in Brazil. It is shown that from the rise of Pentecostalism and its growing political activity, a gradual conflict between religious values and Brazilian secularism emerged. It is pointed out that this debate has been held within the scope of the powers constituted mainly in the legislative and judicial spheres. It studies the influence of the Pentecostal “ethos” in public hearings in the State and in the processing of Bills on controversial topics such as sexuality, gender issues, abortion, religious freedom and religious education. It explores the position of Pentecostals in defense of Christian values and morals, examines the praxis of judicial activism and its relationship with progressive themes, as well as the implications of these practices in the Democratic State of Law. It is investigated in order to find a possible conciliation between the Brazilian secular model and the presence of the Pentecostal “ethos” in the public-state space.
