Resumen:
The theme to be addressed is how Religious Education can contribute to the development of tolerant people. Education must be the basis for this transformation, so Religious Education in elementary schools becomes an important instrument for the propagation of religious tolerance within a modern society with individuals who have behaviors consistent with freedom of expression. In this sense, we can observe that the family, the secular institution that historically is defined by the close and intimate connection between people who are united by parental ties or not, transmits values and also prejudices against color, race, creed, gender, among others. , which eventually lead to violence, whether physical or verbal. Therefore, the school would combat this culture and enlighten not only the student, but also the family of that person. The reflection of this is the violence that portrays the explicit intolerance of those who think differently from their neighbors and cannot take a more inclusive stance. Lack of information is a contributing factor to intolerance. Getting correct information is important in this understanding. Some people fed by misconceptions act impulsively, guided by ignorance. They build prejudice by obfuscating the truth and, associated with this, there are the exclusivist and sectarian indoctrinations that have produced a time bomb in society. The demonization of those who think differently from me is a stimulus to intolerant behavior.
