Análise do legado literário do pioneiro adventista Guilherme Stein Jr.

Abstract

This dissertation explores the significant contribution of Guilherme Stein Jr. to Adventism in Brazil, with a special focus on his bibliographic production in the early 20th century. Although the history of Adventism in the country is relatively well-documented, Guilherme’s literary work, mainly composed of five books, still lacks in-depth academic studies. The objective of the research, situated within the area of concentration Religion, Theology, and Society and the research line History and Theology, is to analyze the central themes addressed by the pioneer in his books, assessing the impact of his work on the theological, philosophical, and creationist formation of the denomination in Brazil. The hypothesis is that his works helped shape Adventist thought in the country, adapting it to the cultural context and strengthening the denominational identity. Additionally, the study aims to fill a significant historiographic gap by offering a detailed analysis of his contributions and recovering the importance of Guilherme, particularly for the development of Adventist education and the press. The first chapter presents some brief biographical details of this pioneer preceded by a summary of the arrival of Adventism in Brazil. The second chapter analyzes the book Sucessos Preditos na História Universal, which addresses the prophecies of Daniel. The third chapter deals with the book O Sábado, which presents a detailed study of the fourth commandment of the Decalogue. The fourth chapter explores the trilogy of books on the origin of languages and religions.
