Ética e cidadania na educação primária em Angola

Abstract

The goal of this paper is to analyze the importance of teaching ethics and citizenship as curricular components in primary education in Angola, a context which for long years has had its development hindered and harmed, first by the devastating effects of the Portuguese colonization imposed on the territory for more than 500 years, second by the bloody civil war which was impetrated soon after Independence in 1975 which lasted almost 32 years and produced extensive damage and destroyed all the physical and institutional structures of the Angolan Society, including the educational sector. Having as an initial point of reference the concepts of Ethics in a general way and of Citizenship as presuppositions for the construction of peace and democracy and observing the current political, economic and social scenario of Angola, we thought that it has become imperious to include ethics and citizenship as curricular components in primary education in Angola as a contribution to the formation of citizens of the present and of the future who need to be critical and able to live respecting diversity, promoting tolerance, peace, equality and universal human rights.
