Divórcio entre evangélicos e evangélicas e as mudanças nas relações familiares: reflexos e implicações

Abstract

The research addresses the process of divorce among evangelical couples, increasingly present in the current social and ecclesiastical context. From the observation of the divorce phenomenon in the historical Pentecostal churches, a bibliographical investigation was carried out. Possible causes, repercussions and potential consequences for the spouses, children, family members and community life are investigated. The quest for inclusion of the people involved in the life of their churches, and how the lack of preparation of the pastors and leaderships have contributed to the negligence of the subject, is approached. The main objective is to comprehend the process of divorce among Evangelical people and the action of the churches facing this phenomenon. It is sought to identify the factors that are pointed out as possible causes of divorce among Christian families, among them the lack of communication, and in the case of the church leaders, the excessive dedication to ecclesiastical issues. The consequences of the separation, the suffering of the spouses, children and relatives, as well as the marginalization within the religious community are discussed. The research allowed a broader understanding of the churches’ role, although it was found that their attributions based on Christian love are not clear. It has been verified that the Church lacks preparation in its action and needs to break old paradigms and biases regarding social changes in postmodernity.
