Resumo:
This course conclusion paper presents the results of a bibliographic research on relevant musicality for worship in the context of the pioneer Baptist churches. In this investigative framework one perceives that the culture of post modernity in which we are inserted, is challenging. It does not present rules or fixed patterns, to the contrary, it is constantly in movement. These changes are helped along mainly through the media and mold the human being who lives in this context, thus influencing the way of seeing and doing religion and Christian music. The study presents a brief history of Christian music throughout history, the influences coming from biblical times and the way the church deals with it, as well as the origin of the Brazilian hymnody coming from Protestantism. A summary of who the pioneer Baptists are, what they believe in and how they relate with music is also presented. The research presents some of the tensions between the quest for maintenance of the confessional identity and the difficulty of conciliation with the post-modern context, characterized by plurality and liquidness. Upon investigating suggestions for the quest for a relevant musicality for the worship services, one perceived that it was necessary to first have clarity about the goal of the community worship, so that this is not confused with other Evangelical events which only aim to entertain. Having clarified that the worship service is the gathering of the community with God and vice-versa, it was possible to establish, for the use of music within the community worship services, the following suggestions: 1) Glorify God; 2) theologically correct; 3) congregational singing; 4) valorization of traditions; 5) openness to what is new and contemporary; 6) good music. Each congregation needs to pay attention to their local context and carry out everything seeking balance.
