Resumo:
This paper has as its theme environmental education as an element in the construction of citizenship with the help of theology. The environmental issues are increasingly showing themselves to be urgent in the world and education is the life of construction of a citizenship to recodify the world in its economic rationality. Theology, on the other hand, is intrinsically related to citizenship and the environmental issues, since it gives dimension to and relates life in the material and spiritual spheres. To do this, the paper is based on bibliographic research, with contributions from Paulo Freire, José Murilo de Carvalho, Moacir Gadotti, Edgar Morin, Leonardo Boff, among others, to elaborate a relevant and current reflection within public education about the essential knowledge for the future and preservation of the environment.
