O Espírito Santo na teologia de Lutero e Calvino

Abstract

In this work we approach the Holy Spirit in Luther’s and Calvin’s theology. We go through Luther’s shock with the enthusiasts until Calvin’s Geneva context to highlight the influences of the context in the theological thinking of the respectful reformers. Through a bibliographical research, we specifically point to the relation between the Hole Spirit and the human spirit. Therefore, writings of the reformers on the theme are highlighted, as well as the posterior reception by theologians. Contribution for the interpretation of the Brazilian religious reality is also brought to light in some aspects of the work. The first chapter addresses the Holy Spirit as a challenge, pointing to the implications and problems of the relationship between the Holy Spirit and the human spirit. On the second chapter, Luther’s context is addressed, that is, the shock with the enthusiasts, specially Andreas Bodenstein von Karlstadt and Thomas Müntzer, as well as Luther’s understanding of the action of the Holy Spirit in the believer. The third chapter will evidence Calvin’s conception on the theme, where we will point to some aspects of similarity and divergence of Calvin to Luther. In the final part of the work, we will make the movement of retaking the central thesis of the reformers, as well as asking ourselves for the result of the research.
