Resumo:
This research was motivated by the recognition of the importance of reflecting on the relationship between Theology, Practical Theology and the theory of Carl Gustav Jung. One of the paths that lead to this is Jung's understanding of people's spirituality – which for him is something intrinsic to the psyche. Based on this reality, we turned to Carl Jung's research and its relationship with human life in contemporary times, presenting the foundations of Analytical Psychology on the structure and dynamics of the human psyche; as well as other contemporary thinkers, drawing parallels between the dualistic/mechanistic view in current science. The question of the relationship between spirituality, transcendence, suffering and healing in the Jungian understanding, and physical and mental health in contemporary times was also the focus of this research; likewise, the understanding of great thinkers of Practical Theology about the current reality, as well as of Practical Theology in Latin America. This study had a theoretical nature, developed through bibliographical research. The findings from Practical Theology as a whole and Jung's theory demonstrate, finally, the importance of the union between these two areas, which are different, but enrich and complement each other. Finally, despite the studies of C.G. Jung being so fiercely criticized by the scientific community of his time for being considered too extensive, and also not very "sensible", his research currently stands out with strength and seriousness in the scientific area, presenting aspects that are extremely close to the characteristics and specificities of contemporary science.
