Resumo:
This study aims to analyze the sacred in Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" through Paul Tillich's Method of Correlation. It is an interdisciplinary work that combines Theology and Literature. To support the research, it began with an exploration of Ernest Hemingway's life, considering his commitment to verisimilitude in his works. Subsequently, the study delved into the Theology of Culture, Theopoetics and Reception Theory. As this is a bibliographic study, the work was analyzed using the Method of Correlation. The final analysis initially involved the preparation of a reading sheet, followed by detailed citations and analyzes of the work. It is concluded that the sacred element is present in the work in various instances, such as textual, poetic, and verisimilitude aspects. The divine was also identified in the symbolisms and emotions portrayed by the main character, as well as in the possible interpretations through the intentional gaps in the text.
